59. Things from the Supermarket.
In the night of May 29, my brother and I went into the grocery to get some food for the house. While buying some stuff there ares some things that are weirdly in my shopping cart.
1. SM Bonus Premium Bihon (x2)
![]() | Vermicelli made from mung bean starch. Seen uncooked. |
It's somewhat very common in [fil-]Chinese households, its six to the thinnest of all pasta. Spaghettoni as the thickest, Capelli d'angelo is the thinnest (angel's hair).

I don't know what I will do with it, but I think ill do a nice custom made pancit (Chinese noodles).... Lovely. I also want to put more recipes in my Multiply Blog.. and another review.
2. Fancy Fish balls (yúwán) and Crab Sticks (Surumi)
I will also need them for my custom recipe, I don't know what I will do but I'll do it when the time comes.
The thing is that the Crab Sicks just look like plain crab stick but the Fancy Fish balls look like panda heads with pink ears! (I remember that junk food[??] called Hello Panda!)
While thinking of what to buy, a lady [about 85+] goes in to inspect the Fancy fish balls with her hands and her nose (kinda gross if you ask me), but what the heck, if its infected then it's infected. I'm not that sanitary.
60.That Miss Universe Mishap.
Congratulations for Miss Philippines for obtaining Miss Photogenic, an award that was won by us six times (Vida Valentina Doria (1971), Maria Margarita Moran(1973), Ailleen Damiles(1996), Abbygale Arenas(1997), Gionna Cabrera(2005), Lia Andrea Ramos(2006) and Anna Theresa Licaros(2007))

National Costume
Miriam Quiambao won the Clairol Best Style Award (hair product) in 1999 and the only Asian to do so (It was no longer handed out in 2002).
Charlene Gonzales is the only Filipina [as of now] to win the best costume award (1994).
None of our delegates won Miss Congeniality so far (Note: It's China's first time to win one). Are we not friendly enough?
Out of all the top 15, Miss Tanzania stands out even without a crowning glory.... She totally defied the stereotype of a Beauty Queen

Evening Gown [Note: This was not the actual gown she wore in the pageant. It was a simple white strap gown with beaded straps a tight shining abdominal area and chiffon pleated skirt with drag, very simple but still good]
During the swimsuit, Riyo Mori was very confident in flaunting everything, energetic in walking and sparkling smiling. She deserved to be the highest pointer (9.599). But her perkiness got the best of her when she got a little low on that evening gown (the thing is to show elegance in poise, not in extravagance).

The gown she wore and that thing is like the Gucci gown I saw in a magazine...
The actual evening gown she wore has a little spark of the Rising Sun in it.. very good. The other one is the work of Fridda Giannini from Gucci in Fall/Winter 2006 [from Metro Sept 2006].
Miss US was so disliked by the crowds and by the Evening gowns. She slumped butt-first onto the stage which was good because it did not harm her face, but she rose up without a drawback or any elegance, she just stands up.. thats it, no drawback moment. She should get examples from Miriam Quimabao when she slipped off her gown (she didn't actually fall, she almost tripped), she flashed a grandeur smile with arms open wide. The crowd hated her too, maybe because of that anti immigrant US thing (you can really hear the people BOOing her).

At least she's beautiful.... right?
Brazil and Velenzuela were amongst the smartest in the top 5 they answered perfectly for me especially miss Brazil for that heart and mind question.
Finally Lets tip our hats off to Former Miss Universes Gloria Maria Aspillera Diaz (1969) and María Margarita “Margie” Roxas Morán (1973, who also won the Photogenic Award)

Gloria Diaz was the youngest of all the delagates and probably outsmarted everyone when asked about how should she welcome the first men from the moon...
She answered this (without getting tounge tied and dead air): "Oh! Uh, just the same things I do. I think if he has been on the moon for so long, I think when he comes over he wants to change, I guess."
Bob (host) was tickled and replied with "Very Good!"
When Gloria Diaz won President Nixon wrote in a letter "When America conquered the moon, the Philippines conquered the Universe"
Margie Moran also exemplified with her great wits, her simplicity (everything she wore was simple) and her grace.
When the candidates were being introduced, Bob (host) would make a short chit chat interview about them to let the audience know more about them.
BOB: "So heres Miss Philippines who does know English." (He was relating to the audience what has just transpired earlier in his interview with Miss Argentina who didn't speak any English at all.) "Your name is?"
Margie: "Margarita Moran."
BOB: "What would you like to do Margarita?"
Margie: "Later?" (Sounding a bit perplexed about the question.)
BOB: "Yes, as a job?"
Margie: "Uh, I'd like to be a Banker." (The way she uttered the word 'banker' sounded like, 'bunker'.)
BOB: "A banker? Why a banker?"
MARGIE: "Well, uh, first, I'd like to follow my father's footsteps because he's a banker (this time, she pronounced the word correctly) and, uh, beside that, I'm taking up a course in Business Administration which courses in banking and finance (the way she said finance was like 'fee-nuns' but it was acceptable) and I like counting money."
BOB: "You like counting money?"
Margie: (Smiled and noded in agreement.)
BOB: "What will you do with Ten Thousand Dollars if you win the Miss Universe Pageant?"
Margie: "Uh, I'll invest it... uh, probably build a hotel."
BOB: "A hotel?"
Margie: "Yes and I'll run the business and my sister will manage it because she's taking up Business--- uh Hotel Management in school."
BOB: "You know, I've made a discovery (addressing the audience.) This girl could be the Onassis of the Philippines before sh's through. Thank you very much, Miss Philippines!"
Later in the final interview:
BOB: "Let's make believe that all of a sudden.. well, this is a perfect question for her! (addressing the audience) Let's make believe all of a sudden you had a million dollars. (The audience was laughing and reacting when Bob said this due to a parallel relation of Margie's prior interview with him that dealt on the subject of 'money management'.) Whats the first thing you would buy and why would you buy it?"
MARGIE: "A house and lot because it's the most important thing and I can't afford it. If I had a million bucks, I'd buy a house and lot and live by myself and other people of course." (at this point, she started to sound very nervous but still manage to maintain her composure.)
BOB; Thank you, Miss Philippines!
61.Isn't it fantastic.
Some of you may do, but did you know that Miss Germany (Angelica Glass) and Miss Norwegian (Kirby Ann Basken) are both half-Filipinos!? (Miss Germany is fathered by a Filipino)
Miss Norway also went to Miss Intercontinental 2006 (representing Philippines) and placing as a Semifinalist
